Milton's Under-12 girls haven't so much answered any doubts about their ability to compete at the rep level as totally buried them.

Promoted to the South Regional Soccer League's Second Division ranks following an impressive select season, the Magic have quickly established themselves as the team to beat.

In fact just scoring on them would be an accomplishment right now, as the local pre-teens head into an early-summer break having yet to surrender a single goal.

"Our whole team has been really committed to defence. We've only allowed the opposition maybe 20 shots so far this year," noted head coach Teri Gordon, whose charges sit atop the standings at 5-0. "The girls were a little nervous at first, moving up to rep, but we began with a big win and they're getting more and more confident with each game."

The Magic continued their shutout streak in Mississauga June 25, disposing of the second-place Falcons 5-0.

Fortifying their efforts after a somewhat slow start -- a growing trend this year -- the visitors pretty much took over by the midway mark of the first half, and kept the pressure up for the balance of the night.

Ayla Blackburn led the onslaught with three goals, while Cassidy Chatten and Marina Furik -- part of a formidable front-line attack -- also dented the twine.

Moved back her usual midfield post to fill the void of a couple of injured defenders, Kara Laidlaw secured player-of-the-game honours with a standout performance.

Starting netminder Samantha Wisson gave another solid effort, and was replaced for about 15 minutes by back-up Sara Blay after taking a hard shot to the face.

Scheduled for a competitive swing through Italy this time next summer, the Under-12 girls also blanked their first-round League Cup playdown opposition recently, downing the First Division's Brantford BICS 4-0.

Anchoring Milton's defence through the early stages of this season are Jessica Szabo and Olivia Renn.

The Magic are back in action Monday in Clarkson, while their next League Cup game is set for July 13 in Hamilton against Dixie A -- unbeaten in the First Division at 3-0-1.
