Miltonians looking for a way to enjoy the upcoming warm summer nights might want to check out a series of free concerts being presented by the Milton Concert Band (MCB).
The band will present one-hour Thursday concerts on July 3, 10, 17 and 24 starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Victoria Park gazebo beside Town Hall on Brown Street.
Building on last summer's successful debut, the MCB is once again inviting audience members to bring a chair or blanket and settle in for an evening of music and merriment in the great outdoors.
"Many people remember sitting out on a lawn with family and friends -- laughing, listening to great music and enjoying just being out on a wonderful warm night," said band president Angela Rozario.
"This is the type of event that not only creates memories but builds communities and we're thrilled to be able to do this for our community."
Rozario added the band hopes to make the summer series a new local tradition.
Musical director Joseph Resendes said the band has some fun music lined up for the summer series.
"You can expect to hear anything from an '80s melody to swing music," Resendes said.
He added the series will give the band a chance to work with other local groups and expose a wider audience to the talent in Milton.
This time around, the band will partner with the Milton Choristers for its July 3 show and will feature such crowd-pleasers as 'Disco Fever' and 'Forever Motown.'
Mayor Gord Krantz will also be attending the first concert and will be the band's "guest conductor" for one of the pieces.
On July 24 the band will feature its own MCB Swing Ensemble, which is made up of members from the larger band.
The band will also perform Wed., July 30 at the Burlington Music Centre before breaking until September.
In its first year-and-a-half of operation, the MCB has performed Christmas and spring concerts at St. Paul's United Church, and appeared at several community events, including the Milton District Hospital's Strawberry Fair and Milton's 150th anniversary celebration.
