Local students can learn more about the world of agriculture at the upcoming Farm, Food and Fun School Fair at Country Heritage Park.

On Friday, May 30, students in grades 3 to 5 can take part in the event that includes stops at eight education centres where pupils can listen to Halton farmers talk about what they do and why.

Scheduled participants include Halton Dairy Farmers, Halton Chicken Farmers, Halton Cattlemen, Halton Pork Producers, Halton Horticultural Farmers, Standardbred Canada, Egg Farmers of Ontario and Halton Soil and Crop Producers.

Students will receive complimentary milk, while teachers will get curriculum linked to agricultural resources.

The Halton Federation of Agriculture will provide a busing subsidy to the first 10 schools registered. The day will run from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Admission costs $6 per student and teachers and parents get in for free. Teachers can register their class by calling (905) 878-1510.

Local families interested in checking out the same agriculture education centres at Country Heritage Park can do so on Saturday, May 31 from noon to 5 p.m.

The day will also include 'old school' games and children's play areas. General admission is $5 per person and children under five get in for free.

Both events are organized by Country Heritage Park and Ontario Agri-Food Education.
