Firefighters work to free the injured occupants of a van on...
Halton police said the collision occurred at about 4:20 p. m. on Guelph Line, north of Derry Road. A 2005 Ford F550 truck collided with a 2002 Honda Odyssey passenger van occupied by four Milton relatives in their eighties.
All occupants of the van — two women and two men — were extracted using the jaws of life as a result of severe damage to the vehicle. They were rushed to Milton District Hospital.
The two women have been released, while the two men remain in serious condition.
The driver and passenger in the Ford truck, both Oakville residents, weren’t injured, police said.
No charges have been laid at this time, and the names of the injured people haven’t been released.
Police have confirmed the weather was a factor. The investigation is continuing.
Police were called to 88 collisions during the afternoon and into the rush hour period Wednesday, which ranged from fender benders to collisions resulting in injuries.
That figure is compared to just 18 collisions during the same time period the day before when the weather was fine.
Police are reminding drivers to drive according to the weather and to equip their vehicles properly for winter.
“Adjust your driving to the conditions — it’s very simple,” said Halton Regional Police Sgt. Brian Carr.
He added snow tires can help drivers immensely.
The Guelph Line crash is being investigated by the Halton Regional Police Reconstruction Unit and Milton Uniform Patrol. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call (905) 825- 4747, ext. 2410.
