The plans from Zag Properties, which went before the Town’s administration and planning committee Monday evening, call for the development on nine acres at the northwest corner of James Snow Parkway and Regional Road 25.
At the southwest corner of the intersection, Zag Properties is looking to create a small development of retail/service commercial uses, such as a bank, drive-through facility and restaurant, to serve the surrounding 401 Business Park.
Ward 2 Councillor Greg Nelson asked what kind of business the drive-through could be associated with.
Town Development Review Planner Chris Lupis said it could be for a bank or a restaurant like Tim Hortons.
Ward 3 Councillor Cindy Lunau said given the high volume of truck traffic in the area, the developer would have to consider how to accommodate the large vehicles that may stop if a restaurant were there.
“I drive that stretch on a regular basis and one of the overwhelming problems is trucks parking on the side of the road,” she noted.
The developer has applied to the Town for zoning bylaw amendments to make way for the proposals.
The committee received reports on the applications for information purposes. Town staff will now prepare technical reports containing recommendations to approve or deny the plans and bring them forward to future council meetings.
