The Halton Catholic District School Board’s Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC) will host a one-day Catholic Parent Conference for parents and community members at Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School, 5150 Upper Middle Rd., Saturday from 8:30 a. m. to 2:30 p. m.
“The conference theme — Engaging Families In Our Children’s Future — reflects our belief that, inspired by the spirit of Christ, the Catholic school seeks to enrich the human person, so that each can develop and fulfill one’s potential,” said Alice Anne LeMay, chair of the Halton Catholic District School Board.
“The Catholic school is a community effort, one that cannot succeed without the co-operation of all concerned — the students, the parents, the teachers, the principals and pastors.”
Participants will gather to start the conference with the Celebration of the Eucharist by His Excellency Bishop Gerard Bergie, auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Hamilton, who will present the keynote address.
More than a dozen workshops are scheduled on topics like raising faith-filled families and Internet safety, as well as the curriculum and special education.
In addition, the Halton Multicultural Council will conduct a workshop on the Youth Settlement Program, which guides newcomers through the start-up process of immigration and assists them in their integration, independence and settlement in the community.
A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
“This first annual conference is an excellent opportunity for our parents to come together to dialogue and share ideas and strategies to become more actively involved in their children’s education,” said James Rowles, superintendent of education for the Halton Catholic board.
Parents may register on-line, and view an outline of the topics, at www.hcdsb.org/conference .
