That gave the Mustangs a 4-1-1 record and top spot in the Richardson Division East ranks, after going winless last fall.
Building on his efforts that factored heavily into a 23-12 win over second-place finisher Georgetown just three days earlier, Ben Miller gave a standout effort that was highlighted by two touchdowns and an interception.
He also had one major called back, while rounding out the scoring were Alex Searle and quarterback Darren Prong, who had a touchdown in all but one game.
Tyler Smith had the other interception, with left corner Sean Fournier delivering topnotch pass coverage.
MD now hosts the Burlington Central Trojans tomorrow afternoon in the crossover quarterfinals. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs’ boys volleyball teams both advanced to tomorrow’s Richardson Division (Tier 2) semifinals with first-round wins at home Friday.
Especially impressive at 10-1 this season, the juniors got a bit of a scare thrown into them by the Lester B. Pearson Patriots — dropping the first set 25-23.
Refusing to let their year be brought to a premature end, they stormed back with a 25-20 decision and then won the tiebreaker 15-11.
With the first-year Corpus Christi Longhorns providing the opposition, MD’s 6-5 seniors took their initial playoff challenge 25-17, 25-22.
Both teams are at Oakville’s St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders for tomorrow’s semis.
