
Police said the incident occurred Tuesday at 8 p. m. A man was driving in the area of Main Street and Thompson Road when a male pedestrian ran in front of his vehicle and he swerved to avoid hitting him.
Police said the driver — whose window was open — was punched by a suspect who then fled.
An arrest was made seven minutes later.
A 52-year-old Syers Drive man has been charged. There were no injuries.
Several drunk driving charges laid
Police have laid drunk driving charges in connection with three unrelated collisions.
At about 10:30 p. m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Tremaine Road, south of Britannia Road.
A 43-year-old Burlington woman was charged with impaired driving and having over the legal limit of alcohol in her blood.
Tuesday, a vehicle was pulled over on Woodward Avenue for a traffic infraction just after midnight.
A 21-year-old Burlington man was charged with having over the legal amount of alcohol in his blood.
And October 22, police received complaints from numerous citizens shortly after 7 p. m. about an erratic driver traveling near Regional Road 25 and Derry Road.
A 46-year-old Harrison Road man was charged with dangerous driving and having care and control of a vehicle with over the legal amount of alcohol in his blood.
Woman tricked; wallet stolen
A woman who fell prey to a distraction technique had her wallet stolen in the Wal-Mart parking lot last Friday.
Police said the woman was returning to her vehicle after shopping with her two kids.
After putting her son in his car seat, she was approached by a man who asked for directions.
While he did this, a second suspect reached into the back hatch of the vehicle and took the woman’s wallet from her purse.
The first suspect — the one talking with the victim — is described as being of Latino descent, about five-foot-seven, 170 pounds, clean-shaven, with short hair, in his mid thirties. He was wearing a dark jacket.
There’s no description of the second suspect.
Car stolen
A vehicle was stolen overnight last week.
Police said the 2003 blue, four-door Acura was parked in front of a home at Joyce Boulevard and Wilson Drive overnight October 23 when it was taken by unknown suspects.
The vehicle is worth $15,000. Its licence plate is BDZD421.
Garage broken into
Items worth $2,500 were stolen from a detached garage on Ontario Street North sometime between last Friday and Sunday.
Police said entry was gained through an unlocked door.
Stolen was a Lincoln welder, a Stihl leaf blower, two Callaway golf clubs and some beer.
Home broken into
A Fourth Line home was broken into sometime between October 20 and Saturday.
Police said unknown suspects forced open the front door and proceeded to take two antique phones and an old wooden high chair.
Vehicles entered; property stolen
Police have responded to numerous recent vehicle break-ins.
On Tuesday between 8:30 and 9:30 p. m., a vehicle parked behind a Martin Street residence was entered by unknown suspects who cracked the windshield and broke a door handle.
Stolen was a gym bag containing clothes and an iPod. The total value of the damage and stolen property is $2,000.
Sometime last weekend, unknown suspects entered an unlocked vehicle on Fulton Street and took a suitcase containing $500 worth of hospital scrubs.
Between last Friday and Monday, a 2006 Toyota Rav4 parked on Jarvie Crescent was entered by suspects who stole a Garmin GPS device worth $450 and insurance documents.
Also between last Friday and Monday, a vehicle on Rixon Way was entered. A Dell Precision laptop computer valued at $2,300 was swiped.
