With contests for the best costumes and pumpkin carving, the event will become a tradition in the village, said Tracey McGrath, an organizer and DCCA member.
“The purpose of the party is bringing all the kids to a safe, worry-free environment for a fun Halloween party to show off their costumes and pumpkin-carving skills,” she said. “This will be an annual event and everyone is invited, young and old.”
The party will run from 7 to 10 p. m. McGrath said she expects families will go trick-or-treating prior to attending, although there will be some treats given out at the event.
For the pumpkin-carving contest, McGrath said kids can pick up free pumpkins at Busy Liz’s on Guelph Line in Campbellville in the days prior to the party. Once the pumpkins have been carved at home, they can be dropped off with a ballot this Friday at Wellington West Capital at 69 Main St. N. in Campbellville before 4 p. m. or at the Lions Hall before 5:30 p. m. for judging. The carving contest is open to children of all ages. Although costumes aren’t mandatory, prizes will be awarded for the best costumes for children from newborns to those 15 years of age.
The event is free, although attendees are asked to bring a canned good donation for the local food bank. A table will be set up for anyone inclined to give a donation to help with future DCCA activities.
The volunteer-based DCCA began more than a year ago to help improve agri-tourism in the Campbellville area and bring the community closer together.
