Saving up for post-secondary education just got a little easier for six Milton grads, thanks to scholarships recently announced by the Milton Chamber of Commerce.

The 2008 Scholarship Fund offers a $1,000 scholarship for a student from each high school in Milton, including E.C. Drury School for the Deaf.

In addition, there's a scholarship for a high school student registered with the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program and one for a son or daughter of a local chamber member.

This year's recipients were presented with their scholarships at Rattlesnake Point Golf Club.

The scholarship winners are:

  • Kevin Marshall, Bishop Reding Secondary School

  • Nurin Merchant, E.C. Drury High School

  • Joanna Hacking, E.C. Drury High School (daughter of a chamber member)

  • Jonathan MacDonald, E.C. Drury High School for the Deaf

  • Priscilla Tang, Milton District High School

  • Robert Grupp, Milton District High School (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program)

Sponsors of the event were Prosperity One and Rattlesnake Point.

The chamber has offered scholarships to students attending their first year of post-secondary education since 1990.

It funds the program through its Scholarship Café at the Milton Farmers' Market and the annual Sports Celebrity Dinner and Auction.
