Last week the provincial government announced it's dishing out $1.1 billion across Ontario to improve roads and bridges, expand public transit and build other municipal projects.
Halton has been allocated $22 million, followed by Burlington and Oakville, which are each getting about $7.4 million. Halton Hills and Milton will each get about $2.4 million.
"This is a good sign," said Regional Chair Gary Carr. "I am anxious to see specifically what it means for Halton. Hopefully, we will now be able to work with the Province to choose and implement infrastructure projects vital to Halton's future growth and prosperity."
Carr added the announcement shows the Province has heard the messages articulated in the Region's 'Fairness for Halton' campaign and at a recent political summit, which was held to find ways to address the costs of growth.
The infrastructure funds come as a result of the government passing the Investing in Ontario Act. The new legislation allows the Province to use a portion of any unanticipated year-end budget surplus to address priority public needs, as well as reduce the deficit.
