Slots money given to 16 organizations, 13 individuals in spring allocations

The Town is dishing out its spring round of Milton Community Fund allocations.
Andrew Scarffe, Brent Burke, Alex Davis, Bryan Iwasa-Madge, Chris Leeder, Colin Scarffe, Colm Whitford, John Swan, Paul Zielinski and Scott Davis -- $1,300 each to attend the 2008 Ontario and Canadian Junior Long Course Swimming Championships
Quincy Brozo -- $300 to attend the 2008 Ontario Junior Long Course Swimming Championships
Lorne Scotts Milton Army Cadet Corps -- $5,964 to purchase two-way radios, GPS units and accessories for both
Alan Moffat -- $1,500 to compete at the 2008 Junior World Wrestling Championships in Istanbul, Turkey
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton -- $23,000 to assist with salary and operational costs for the Milton office
Canadian Mental Health Association, Halton branch -- $17,735 to promote and host the Mental Health Recovery Conference in Milton and to train staff from a variety of Halton agencies serving clients with mental health issues
Duncan Moffat -- $1,500 to compete at the 2008 Cadet Pan American Wrestling Championships in San Salvador, Central America
Fine Arts Society of Milton -- $4,750 for the Studio Tour, From Heart to Hand event and to support an advanced artist workshop
Halton Agricultural Society -- $14,700 to assist with fees to relocate hydro poles at the Milton Fair Grounds
Leash Free Milton -- $2,564 to purchase a storage shed and materials, portable shade structures and park maintenance equipment for the leash-free dog park
Milton Chinese Association -- $3,000 to support an event in Milton to celebrate Chinese culture
Milton Choristers -- $2,260 to buy a new portable keyboard piano
Milton Concert Band -- $6,063 to help with fees for Christmas, spring and summer concerts
Milton Curling Club -- $11,696 to upgrade its compressor, compressor room and valve assembly
Milton Marlin Swim Team -- $1,368 for five coaches to attend training in Huntsville
Milton Mighty Ducks -- $5,751 to purchase equipment, first aid kits, uniforms and to assist with gym rental fees
Milton Youth Soccer Club -- $14,570 to provide training for coaches and referees and to purchase a shade canopy and equipment
Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Halton chapter -- $18,000 to host an education event in spring 2009 in Milton, expand program activities and provide support for volunteer recruitment and organization promotion
North Halton Girls Hockey Association -- $3,080 for training fees and to hire American Sign Language translators for training
Ontario Steam and Antique Preservers Association -- $14,200 to assist with the 48th annual Steam Era promotion, trucking fees and sound system equipment rental
Grants for 16 organizations and 13 individuals were approved by town council at its meeting last week.

The fund, which still has $193,397 available this year, was set up so local residents or groups can apply for money received from Slots at Mohawk.
