Halton Region Museum will host its outdoor Battle of the Bands competition from 1 to 6 p. m. on the grass in front of the Alexander Barn. The museum is located in Kelso Conservation Area.
Local bands will be featured, competing for the title of best band and vying for prizes including recording time at a studio and a professional photo shoot.
Bands, fans and history will come together for the fall event, which will include such bands as District, Art of Action, Trip City, The Bad Names, Green Party, The Way-Outs and Black Shoe Collective.
The show will include an eclectic mix of genres including ska, rock, punk and alternative.
A guest performance will be given by the pop-infused ska punk band, the Johnstones.
Tickets will be available in advance and at the park gate for $10 each on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cash prizes will be awarded for the first, second and third-place bands. In addition, Decibel Labs has donated three prizes:
• First place — 16 hours recording time, a professional photo shoot, newspaper exposure and $200
• Second place — eight hours recording time and $150
• Third place — four hours recording time and $100
Winners will be determined by a panel of judges from within the music industry.
The concert is being sponsored by the Halton Region Museum Foundation.
“With this musical event, the museum is reaching out to a new audience,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “This is all part of the museum’s efforts to connect with diverse populations and changing audiences, exploring multiple perspectives and new media to facilitate memorable experiences.”
Steven Baker, chair of the Halton Museum Foundation, said the museum is always on the lookout for new ways to raise money for capital projects.
