Crawford Lake to host 'Spirit Sings' Sunday
Arts & Entertainment
Aug 15, 2008
Visitors will be transported nearly 600 years back in time during Crawford Lake Conservation Area's upcoming Spirit Sings event this Sunday.

The event is designed to give visitors insight into the true spirit of Canada's land and the First Nations people.

It will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. in a reconstructed longhouse village -- which is what the Iroquoian people lived in.

First Nations teacher Joe Paquette will welcome visitors to the Turtle Clan longhouse to share First Nations traditions around a crackling fire. Included will be a traditional meal, a moccasin walk to a starlit lake and the making of a unique craft to take home.

Although the event doesn't start until the moon rises, registrants may explore Crawford Lake for the full day as part of the registration fee.

The park boasts 16 km of hiking trails along the Niagara Escarpment, a rare lake, beautiful woodlands, picnic areas and a visitors' centre with a gift shop.

The Iroquoian village is also open daily for the summer between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The Spirit Sings is a pre-registered event. The cost is $24 for adults and $15 for seniors and kids aged eight to 14. To register, call (905) 854-0234.
